A servant of God. A shepherd of God’s people.
A native of Petersburg, Virginia, Rev. Gregory L. Spurlock, Sr. is a husband, father, grandfather and servant-leader. His ministry is rooted in biblical preaching, practical discipleship, compassionate care and meaningful service in the community.
He accepted the call to preach and was licensed at Tabernacle Baptist Church in January 1995 under Rev. Dr. A. L. Gee. He was ordained in June 1997 under Rev. Dr. Robert A. Diggs, Sr., also at Tabernacle Baptist Church.
Rev. Spurlock served Lebanon Baptist Church in Surry County for 14 years before beginning his pastoral assignment at Oak Grove Baptist Church in Sterling on April 24, 2011. His service at Oak Grove continued through October 22, 2023. He later served as Assistant Pastor of New Mount Olive Baptist Church in Hampton from July 2025 through July 2026.
On July 13, 2026, Shiloh Baptist Church called Rev. Spurlock as its 15th pastor. He began serving as Pastor-Elect on August 9, 2026.
He studied Public Administration at Virginia State University and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Religion from Richmond Virginia Seminary, a Master of Divinity from Virginia University of Lynchburg, and a Master of Arts in Christian Education from Virginia Union University’s Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology. He is continuing his studies as a Doctor of Ministry learner at Virginia University of Lynchburg.
His service includes Baptist association leadership, chairing the Board of Trustees of the Children’s Home of Virginia Baptists, and work as Director of Church Engagement at Hampton University through the National Center for Black Family Life.
Rev. Spurlock and his wife, Dr. Lottie Mickens Spurlock, share more than three decades of marriage and are the parents of three adult children. His favorite Scripture, Ephesians 3:20, reflects his confidence in God’s power and purpose.
